Chapter Five.

HEROES ALL.

The Darkside-Oort Gate works! It’s February 3rd, and the engineers are running a series of last-minute tests. They’re concerned, the testing deadline allowing insufficient time for a thorough evaluation. The League strike force needs to move through the gate today and begin the acceleration process in order to meet the enemy at a similar velocity. There is still a concern the entire battle group will enter warp and move off at .9C. Our strike force wouldn’t be able to chase them down. But at this point the battle group is still approaching Oort Base, bubble-off.

WASP One rattled them. They’re going to destroy Oort, the obvious source of the attack. And they’ll stay in normal space until then, less vulnerable to any more surprises.

The League ships will need something like 3 days to accelerate to their maximum .5C. Shockwave is on call for ten days starting today, February 3rd through February 13th. We’ll spend the next few days at Shockwave Headquarters, then move on to the Solcom war room on the 6th. Quputer modeling has the League strike force engaging the Empire battle group as early as late afternoon, PST, on the 6th.

This just in. It’s happening. The impactor shark schools have traversed the Darkside-Oort bridge, with battlestars about to follow. In order to deploy 24 ships as originally planned, it was necessary to borrow a few ships from the in-system WASP Three strike force. Yeah, fleet command is taking every operational warship. And they’re off!

Good hunting, battlestars! May you win the day as true battle stars, and blast the enemy ships to quarks.

WASP TWO

It’s been a hectic week. Shockwave is back at the Solcom war room, on... February 11th. They’ve put us in the same gallery room as before. We’re all creatures of habit I suppose. Same gallery room; our team sprawled out in the same seats we ended up in last time. Hold. That’s something new and different. There are flashing lights by one of the war room entry doors. No alarms.

The door is opening, with two military police types fast-stepping in, sandwiching someone with a blue velvet broad-rim hat. That’s quite the escort. I can’t make out who it is from this angle. Furry hands? It’s Steve! Our technical expert on all things Empire. Don’t let the VIP treatment go to your head, Steve.

Or, I suppose the escort could just as well indicate a lack of trust for the off-worlder <a person from another world>. Stupid heuristic interpreter. Everyone knows the meaning of off-worlder. Is Steve coming to our gallery room? He is!

He always seems to have some helpful insights. “Hi, Steve! We didn’t hear you’d be joining us.”

Mr. T may have been expecting him. “Glad you could join us, Steve.”

It sounds like Steve may have been delayed. “Glad to see you. It looks as though I arrived just in time.”

Para patted a vacant chair. “Have a seat.”

Steve grimaced a smile and took a seat. “Thanks.”

We can see the main war room from the gallery. Rock is sitting at his console, just like before.
